Anti-Wrinkle

What is it?

Fine lines and wrinkles in the face are part of the aging process.  Continual use of certain muscles over the years causes the skin to develop creases or wrinkles.  Eventually, these wrinkles are visible even upon rest. Areas we commonly see these fine lines and wrinkles are Glabella frown lines, Forehead lines and Crows feet (wrinkles extending from the corners of the eyes).

Botulinum Toxin Type A is the substance used in anti-wrinkle injections, a non-surgical approach to anti-ageing. A tiny amount of the product is injected superficially in to the area/s of concern to relax the muscle. Over the course of 2-10 days the muscle will relax, reducing or eliminating the ability of the muscle to contract in that area.

The effects last up to 4 months. Botulinum Toxin type A can also be used in the treatment of excessive underarm sweating. Used in combination with dermal fillers, skin peels, micro-needling and skin rejuvenation treatments, these fine lines and wrinkles can be improved dramatically.

Procedure

An initial consultation is generally 30 minutes and treatment itself is approximately 15 minutes. During this consultation we will gather health information to establish your suitability for treatment, discuss the areas you wish to improve, explain the expected outcomes and answer any questions you may have. The treatment itself involves the use of a very fine needle to inject small amounts of the product in to the selected area. The discomfort is minimal, likened to a little sting, and can be reduced by use of a cold compress if required.

A follow up appointment should be scheduled for 2 weeks post treatment and treatments should be undertaken every 4 months to maintain the results. You can discuss with our team the type of result you are seeking to achieve and a course of treatment will be prescribed.

FAQ: Anti-Wrinkle Treatments

What is the purpose of antiwrinkle?
Anti-wrinkle treatments are used to treat fine lines and wrinkles that appear on the face.  This is done through injections, which contain a protein that causes the muscles to relax.  This will result in smoothing out of fine lines and wrinkles in the treated area.

How quickly will I see results?
It takes about 14 days to see the full effects of the anti-wrinkle treatment

How long will the results last?
The results will usually last about four months.  If you are receiving anti-wrinkle injections on a regular basis, the results may last longer.

Are there any side effects?
Anti-wrinkle treatments are usually well tolerated.  However, there are some possible side effects including: pain, burning, swelling/redness at injection site, local muscle weakness including drooping of eyelids/eyebrows; swollen eyelids, skin tightness, tingling sensations, itching, headaches, nausea and flu-like symptoms.
