Dermal Fillers

What is it?

Dermal fillers are a gel-like substance used to create volume where it has either been lost or placed in an area the patient wants enhanced.  Main areas of use include the lips, the cheeks, tear troughs, brow, the naso-labial folds (crease between nose and corners of mouth), jawline, chin, temples and backs of the hands.  Dermal fillers are made up of a synthetic form of a naturally occurring substance in the body, Hyaluronic Acid. There are different levels of thickness, ranging from a thin consistency commonly used for areas such as the lips and tear trough, to a medium thickness and a very thick form which is used for the cheek area.

Procedure

An initial consultation will involve gathering some information about your health to assess your suitability for treatment. Assessment of the areas of concern and establishing a treatment plan to help improve these. You will be educated on the expected outcome and we will answer any questions you may have. The treatment generally involves the application of a topical anaesthetic and cold compress to help reduce discomfort. The product may be administered either through a fine needle or a cannula and takes approximately 30 minutes depending on the area. There will be an immediate result, however, the filler itself can take at least a couple of weeks to fully integrate into the tissues. Therefore, best results are after two weeks. We do recommend a review appointment at 2 weeks.
